Export of "Thai Jasmine Rice" shaken by the US raising import tariffs on Thailand by 36%

Today (April 3, 2025), Mr. Chukiat Opaswong, Honorary President of the Thai Rice Exporters Association, said that after learning the results of President Donald Trump's announcement to increase import tariffs on many countries, Thailand was charged as high as 36%, which is much higher than expected. The tax will cause Thai rice exports, especially Thai Hom Mali rice, which has a share in the US market in 2024 to exceed 850,000 tons, from the normal average of 900-1,000 dollars per ton. However, when the tax is increased to 36%, the price of Thai Hom Mali rice in the US market will immediately increase to 1,400 dollars.
